Recycled Computers Benefiting Calgary, Edmonton, and Alberta's Children's Agencies

Calgary, Alberta (PRWEB) August 29, 2007 -- A partnership between Alberta's Promise and the Electronic Recycling Association (www.ERA.ca) is providing refurbished computers to seven Calgary not-for-profit agencies serving the child and youth sector.

The Calgary organizations receiving ERA's refurbished computers are Alberta's Promise partners and include Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, Calgary Women's Emergency Shelters, Churchill Park Family Care Society, Inn From The Cold Society, PREP Program, Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, and Wood's Homes. A total of 32 computers will be delivered, ensuring that each agency has the equipment and capacity to effectively meet the needs of their clients. Many of the computers donated will be committed for children's use to help them develop their computer literacy skills.

"We know that many of these organizations cannot afford to buy computers for the children that they serve," explains Bojan Paduh, Director, Electronic Recycling Association. "Computer literacy is an important skill for children to have in order to grow into functioning adults. That's why we feel it's necessary for ERA to get involved and do our part to provide children across our province with opportunities to meet their potential and allow them to be kids."

The computers distributed within Calgary are just 32 of a total 200 that are set to be delivered throughout Alberta in September. Eleven other Alberta's Promise agency partners in Edmonton, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray will each receive ERA's refurbished computers. ERA expects this contribution to be the first in a series of donations of recycled computers and computer equipment made to Alberta's Promise partners.

"We're one of the only recycling companies in Alberta that provides not-for-profits with free computers," says Paduh. "Our partnership with Alberta's Promise has opened the door for us to distribute our computers to a network of organizations who can use them to benefit children and youth in our province."

Electronic Recycling Association is a not-for-profit organization that collects unwanted electronic items and is a leading free-of-cost provider of recycled computers for organizations who could not otherwise afford them.

"ERA and Alberta's Promise are committed to building a healthy economy in our province," says Tyra Henschel, Executive Director of Alberta's Promise.

ERA collects old computers from corporations and government departments, and distributes them to local charities and non profit groups. To contribute and be a part of this great program, please contact.
